What we’re about

You're obsessed with Making It.

You made It, that thing, that object, and you want to show It off. Perhaps you're in the process making It, but you'd like some feedback from your peers before you finish It. Or you want to make It, but you have no idea how. Maybe you've perfected It, but now you need to figure out how to Kickstart It, sell It, license It, manufacture It.

MakeIt NYC is a general show-and-tell for physical things that you've made, where Makers can talk about their projects, how they created, what resources they've discovered, and what they've learned along the way. MakerIt NYC is about showing off, learning, and asking about the "How" in How-To. Yes, there will be presentations and demonstrations, but this group is about putting people together so that they can learn and inspire each other.

Anyone who's interested in Making Things - inventors, designers, hobbyists, engineers, amateurs, the self-taught and the mavens alike - should join us.

Code of Conduct

This document is a work in progress: our overall belief is that mutual respect and voices from all walks of life must be heard to create a balanced society. We want our community to be more diverse...whatever your background, we welcome you. We actively support an inclusive environment, and we want you to be a part of it.

All MakeIt NYC attendees, speakers, performers, patrons, and volunteers are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to ensure a safe environment for everybody.

Our events are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, knowledge of presented subject matter, or religion (or lack thereof). We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any venue, including talks, parties, Twitter, other social media, our attendee communication channel, and other online media. Participants violating these rules are likely to be sanctioned or expelled from MakeIt NYC without a refund (if appropriate) at the discretion of the organizers.

Discussion or images related to sex, pornography, discriminatory language, or similar, can be seen as harassment, so please be considerate. If you intend to have any images related to sex or pornography in your project exhibit or talk, please ask the organizers of MakeIt NYC if it is appropriate before using.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please let MakeIt NYC organizers know immediately.

MakeIt NYC staff will be happy to help participants contact local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference at the venue.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all MakeIt NYC conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.

Thanks!
The MakeIt NYC Team
